Sourdough Graham Crackers

My kids and my little brothers devour these! They are a great grab and go snack for church, road trips, or busy days. They are also very simple to make. They don’t last long in our house!

You start by mixing your dough and letting it set on the counter to ferment. Letting that starter do its magic, breaking down gluten and creating probiotics and vitamins.

Then you divide your dough in half and roll out each piece into a rectangle on parchment paper. I find it helpful to use a piece of parchment paper on top as well to keep my rolling pin from sticking.

Next you cut the dough into squares with a pizza cutter. Using a fork, poke holes in each square to allow the dough to vent during baking.

Place dough on a cookie sheet or stone and bake. Just like that you have a healthier version of graham crackers for your little munchkins.

Sourdough Graham Crackers

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 cups Flour

  • 1 tsp Baking Powder

  • 1/2 tsp Cinnamon

  • 1 tsp Salt

  • 1/2 cup Brown Sugar

  • 1/4 cup Honey

  • 1 tsp Vanilla

  • 1/2 cup active sourdough starter

  • 1/2 cup Butter (melted)

DIRECTIONS

Mix flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt. Add the sugar, honey, vanilla, and starter. If butter is hot, slowly add it in while stirring. Once all the ingredients are combined, place a lid on the bowl and let set on the counter for 8-12 hours.

Preheat oven to 325 degrees F.

Place half the dough on a sheet of parchment paper. Roll the dough out into a rough rectangle about 1/8 in. thick. I like to use a second piece of parchment paper on top to keep the dough from sticking to my rolling pin.

Using a pizza cutter, cut the large rectangle into smaller squares. Poke each square with a fork to allow the dough to vent while baking.

Transfer the parchment paper onto a cookie sheet or stone. Bake for 16-18 minutes. Pull parchment paper off pan right away and place on counter to cool.

Repeat with the other half of dough.

Enjoy!!
